3 Tips for Self-Care During Uncertain Times

During these uncertain times, it if fairly easy to become overwhelmed by the sheer weight of present-day occurrences. From illness to death to job-loss to economic challenges, it can be difficult to remain positive and focused when faced with life’s upheavals. With this in mind, we at Comfort and Care Home Care Services, have compiled a list of 3 Tips for Self-Care During Uncertain Times.

  1. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the act of being conscious or aware of something or a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique. Oftentimes, we become so immersed in a situation that we don’t take the time to be aware of our thoughts. The mind will latch on to one scenario and that will morph it into a full-blown theatrical movie. While the theatrics of the mind can be entertaining, oftentimes it can lead to undue stress. You can practice mindfulness by taking slow and deliberate breaths, being aware of body sensations, allowing your thoughts to dissipate or flow without following the thought.

  1. Stay Present

Be aware of your current state. Don’t play in the past or flirt with the future. Stay present. Observe the mind’s negativity and the negative energy in your inner-space – the more you observe the more you sense how much you are pulled around by negativity.

  1. Exercise Gratitude

Being grateful can seem difficult when things in your life are unclear. After all, the sudden death of a loved one may be tough to process. Or the loss of a job and inability to pay your bills, can drive anyone to hysterics. In light of life’s disruptions, take the time to express gratitude for the little things. For instance, being thankful that you have a safe place to live, or that you have friends and family that love and care for your, or that you have your health is just a start. Documenting what you are grateful for in a gratitude journal (on a daily basis) will allow you to express your feelings on a more consistent way.
